This year's International Day of Education, marked by UNESCO on 24 January 2024 theme of “learning for lasting peace” provides us with the opportunity to elevate our commitment to adaptive education that intentionally inspires well-being and learning so that our diverse internationally-minded community flourish and energize, engage and empower learners.
As the first International School and the first IB School in Ho Chi Minh City, our mission goes hand in hand with the theme “learning for lasting peace”. Over 30 years we have been an established leader in internationally-minded holistic education.
Over 30 years through the IB Learner Profile we have developed inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring individuals that embody our school's values of Curiosity, Achievement, Resilience, and Empathy (CARE). Over 30 years we have been committed to empowering learners with the essential knowledge, values, attitudes, and skills to become influential agents of peace within their communities.
Olli-Pekka Heinonen the Director General International Baccalaureate states that
“Sustaining peace requires ongoing actions, emphasizing that it is not simply a destination but a continuous journey, where education plays a central and pivotal role. Through education, we can foster understanding, empathy, and the skills necessary to navigate violence, conflicts and war. While there is no universal solution to achieving global peace, it is important that we embrace learning and recognize how we treat and perceive one another in the broader human context.”
As we commemorate the International Day of Education, let's celebrate the impact we have every day in providing quality education, and let us reaffirm our commitment to creating learning environments that empower individuals to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners within the classroom and beyond.
Everything we do at ISHCMC we do with intention. Our intention is to enhance intercultural understandings and teaching and learning in our Vietnam context, offer memorable experiences, and champion inclusion, diversity, and justice.
We purposefully design and celebrate our culture of CARE, promote systems of growth, and nurture leadership. We stand against exclusion and rigid education that limits self-expression and growth. We promise each member of our community space for expression and a strong sense of belonging. We foster “learning for lasting peace”.
