At ISHCMC our teachers and students regularly participate in Mindfulness practices. We do this to bring awareness to the present moment. Through this practice of being fully aware in the here and now, we are more able to learn from our own experience; we understand better our mind, our thoughts and feelings; and we explore how each of these manifest in our bodies, life choices and our well-being.
At ISHCMC we understand “Mindfulness is paying attention to the here and now, with kindness and curiosity”. Dr. Amy Saltzman
We strive to practice “Paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, non-Judgmentally” Jon Kabat-Zinn
During Home Based Learning you may have noticed our students participating in 5 - 10 minute daily practices - in the morning for the primary community, and after lunch in secondary. We invite you to join in these practices to understand and support your children with the development of mindfulness. Mindfulness is an experiential practice and requires repetition to become integrated into the way we connect to and understand ourselves. Starting a personal practice is a wonderful way to support your children, and to build awareness.
