Dexter is a Language Acquisition teacher specializing in Spanish. He comes to ISHCMC after having taught previously in IB schools in the UAE and China and teaching experience in the UK, Spain, and Argentina. He believes in the importance of an internationally-focused holistic education to help students succeed inside and outside of the classroom.

Ryan Gibson

Ryan is constantly revising and constructing his educational philosophy every day in studying his PostGraduate Certificate in Education. Ryan considers himself a lifelong learner, and expects to continue adding to and amending his teaching ethos throughout his career. Ryan believes in empowering students to take ownership of their learning, and thinks teachers are crucial facilitators to guide students towards metacognition.

Wayne remains an enthusiastic and passionate classroom teacher. He enjoys helping students to pursue their learning journey. 

Janice Smith has over 25 years of experience teaching in a variety of international settings. She began her career teaching in Hawaii for several years before moving to Central America, where she taught for a number of years. For the past 17 years, Janice has held teaching positions in the Middle East and Asia.

From 2002-2006, Janice was a faculty member at the University of Hawaii, where she taught courses in the Spanish Department. She then spent 8 years teaching at an international school in Dubai before joining the team at ISHCMC in Vietnam, where she has been for the past 9 years.

Throughout her career, Janice has held several leadership positions, including serving as Head of Department and EAL (English as an Additional Language) Coordinator and is now serving as Home Language Studies Coordinator here at ISHCMC. She is also passionate about sports and has spent time coaching basketball at the schools where she has taught.

Janice is passionate about helping students develop a strong understanding of how language shapes identity and self-expression. She believes that learning should be viewed as an opportunity for students to grow as well-rounded individuals, exploring not just the academic content, but also themselves and the world around them.

With 18 years of experience specifically in the IB curriculum, Janice is an expert in designing engaging, student-centered lessons that prepare learners for success both in the classroom and in the wider world

For Neil, it is vital to create a supportive and caring environment in which students are left in no doubt that their teacher takes a genuine interest in their development. Once established, learners can reach new levels of motivation and push themselves to the limits of their abilities. Neil thinks it important for students to frequently reflect on their learning and, with teacher guidance, to clarify exactly what is needed to progress.

NamHee believes that teaching methods need to be adaptable to students’ and society's needs, but the goal remains the same. As educators, we need to best prepare students for their future in a safe environment. Socratic teaching, inductive based teaching such as project-based learning as well as pedagogy teaching can all have a place in the right context.
