Head of School Newsletter: June 2021

Dear Parents,

I hope that this final update for the school year finds you and your families well.

As I reflect on the academic year, it feels like it was only yesterday that it was the beginning of the school year when I was connecting with you from quarantine. Now here we are at the end of the school year in a home-based learning context with much of our communication once again in a virtual mode. This year we have continued to be challenged by the uncertainty that the global pandemic creates, however as a school community we have shown great strength, resilience and continuously been committed to our students learning and activating our community when it has been safe to do so. I would like to express my gratitude to all of our parents for the amazing support that you have provided your children and our teachers every day. The involvement of our parents in school life at ISHCMC is a beautiful and unique part of our school culture. Your voices and all of the actions you take to energize our community are deeply valued.

I am incredibly proud of our school community for our resilience and adaptability. Throughout the school year our team has been prepared for any context for learning and when we have moved into home-based learning I have appreciated the professionalism, agility and speed that has been shown by our team. The levels of engagement of our students during times of home-based learning has been outstanding. Our students have demonstrated their adaptability and show us that continuous learning no matter the context is possible. I also extend my gratitude to all of our parents. When we move into home-based learning we know that your home routines have to be adjusted and that your children rely on your support. Thank you on behalf of your children for your help and thank you on behalf of our team for supporting us and your child’s continuous learning journey.

I also would like to take a moment to highlight and recognize the exceptional contributions of both our PTO and our parent class representatives over this academic year. While this unique year has certainly had some interesting moments, our PTO and all our parent class representatives have been fantastic pillars of support for our whole community. As always, they have gone above and beyond and have made incredible additions to our students’ educational experience and lifelong memories.

Over the course of this school year I have greatly appreciated the opportunities to hear the voices of our community. Our parents, our students and our faculty & staff have all shared thoughts, celebrations, areas of improvement and aspirations. All of these voices have been used to review and reflect on our vision and mission and to determine key areas of action and growth for our school community. I am pleased to share with you in this update the draft refreshed ISHCMC Vision, Mission and Strategic Plan. This is being shared at this point for your feedback and comment. Further work will be undertaken by our Strategic Planning Working Team over June and July to ensure that we have a final version ready for the upcoming school year.

I look forward to our new academic year. I look forward to building stronger relationships with our community and creating more opportunities for us to co-create our future. I am so proud to be part of #OneTeamOneISHCMC and continuously excited by the future and the ongoing growth of our school, where your children continue to have a unique and high quality education, and where every day, every child is able to flourish and thrive.
