Message from the High School Principal – 17 September 2026
Dear ISHCMC High School Community,
Last week, I was pleased to connect with many Grade 11 students and parents at our Grade 11 Back to School Night. Moving from the MYP to the DP is so much more than a change in curriculum. It is the beginning of a bigger question: what comes after graduation?
I hope the evening gave students and families an opportunity to explore not only the academic pathways ahead, but also the people, and the culture of care that will support our students through their final two years of high school. At ISHCMC, we want our students to discover what they want to do, but even more importantly, who they want to become. I’m excited to walk alongside them as they explore these questions and shape their future pathways. Thank you to our Curriculum Coordinators, Pathway Counselors, teachers, and staff for making the evening possible.
It has now been two weeks since After School Activities (ASAs) Season 1 began, and it has been wonderful to see our students getting involved, discovering new interests, and building connections beyond the classroom. With more than 130 activities on offer, from Student Entrepreneurship Innovation Association (SEIA) Business Simulation and Debate to Gardening Club, Secondary Production, and volleyball, we are proud to provide so many opportunities for students to explore their passions.
Last week, our High School students came together for School Photos Day. Alongside professional headshots and class photos, there were plenty of fun and memorable moments captured. For our Grade 12 students, it was particularly special as this will be their final School Photos Day as ISHCMC students. It is always a moving sight to see our seniors putting on their caps and gowns and taking these photos at the very beginning of their final year.
Throughout this week, our Grade 9 and 10 students are completing the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. MAP is an internationally recognized adaptive assessment that helps teachers understand student progress and growth in reading, language, and mathematics, allowing us to identify areas for growth and tailor learning to each student’s needs. I wish our students the very best and encourage families to learn more about MAP Testing below.
Following our Grade 11 and 12 Back to School Nights and Parent Coffee Mornings, our Future Pathways Counselors have already welcomed 25 universities to campus! These visits provide our Rhinos with a valuable opportunity to meet 1-on-1 with university representatives and get the latest information on admissions, entry requirements, courses, and campus life.
Most importantly, supporting our seniors remains our top priority. Future Pathways Counselors are regularly leading IB Core classes to help students navigate country-specific application processes, understand SAT and IELTS requirements, and develop their personal statements. We’re excited to continue bringing universities to campus while ensuring our seniors have the guidance and support they need throughout the application process.
From 22 September, Secondary students will take part in University Spirit Week, exploring future pathways through workshops and activities designed to broaden perspectives and spark curiosity. The highlight will be the University Fair, where representatives from over 200 leading global universities will be on campus to share insights on programs, admissions, and campus life, helping students make informed choices about their futures.
Next week, we will also come together to participate in the 8th Global Be Well Day celebrated across Cognita schools. Students will take part in a full day of physical activity and well-being workshops on 25 September.
