Message from the Middle School Principal – 3 September 2026

Dear ISHCMC Middle School Community,

I hope you and your families have experienced a most enjoyable break, making the most of your time to enjoy, rest, reflect, and recharge together with friends and loved ones. Family time is always the best time.

Vietnam National Day is a most significant moment  for us to recognize the values, history, and vision of the Vietnamese Nation. ISHCMC is  proud of our Vietnamese heritage and we want to take a moment to honor and respect our privilege to call Vietnam home.  As a new resident of Vietnam, I am constantly reminded of Vietnam’s deep sense of culture, pride, and history while at the same time, inspired and encouraged by the passion, warmth, and dedication that drives Vietnam to an even brighter future.  

Back to School Night

Tonight, I’m excited to welcome our Middle School students and families to our Grades 6-10 Back to School Night. Ahead of the event, I encourage you to explore our Curriculum Overviews, which provide an outline of your child’s learning and our MYP Program. We aim to create strong relationships with families, teachers, and students and establish the connections with advisors and teachers that are fundamental to a supportive, successful experience for middle school learners.

Secondary School is an important foundation in each student’s learning journey. During these years, students transition into subject-specific learning, building a foundational knowledge base through reading more informational and academic texts. MYP learners  explore new concepts and develop lenses for inquiry, while developing their Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills, including social, self-management, thinking, and communication skills. Most importantly, the Middle Years are when students develop healthy learning routines, view challenges and mistakes as learning opportunities, and build a sense of identity and belonging by pursuing their passions and interests.

I look forward to this learning session to share more about the Middle Years Programme (MYP), alongside our Head of School, Middle School Vice Principal, and Curriculum Coordinator. This evening will provide a deeper understanding of the teaching, support, guidance, and the culture of care ISHCMC provides in our Middle School. Our teachers, advisors, counselors, and leaders are committed to supporting every student, and this  responsibility for both  academic and personal growth is crucial in the MYP.  All ISHCMC students are  known and cared for, and we hope this evening opens the pathways for you to have  a personal connection with your child’s teachers.

House Spirit Week and Sports Day

Last week, we celebrated House Spirit Week, and it was wonderful to see our Middle School students getting involved and showing their House pride. From karaoke and basketball hoop competitions to our Middle School Sports Day, students had many opportunities to connect, have fun, and challenge themselves.

During Sports Day, students took part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities, including football, Wall Breakers, tug of war, and more. These experiences are a wonderful way for students to build connections and friendships across grade levels, challenge themselves, and develop a sense of pride in their Houses and as ISHCMC Rhinos together. We also had a tremendous start to our Athletics and ASA programs and want to share a thank you to the coaches and support staff that make this possible, and appreciation to you as parents for your support and commitment to our thriving ISHCMC Sports Program.

School Photos - Next Week

Next week, ISHCMC Secondary will come together for School Photo Day. Students will have the opportunity to take professional headshots, as well as some fun photos if they choose! I will keep some spare combs and hair pomade in case of any emergencies. Don’t hesitate to reach out.

I am so proud of our students and staff. Our community of care, happiness, and success would not be possible without your dedicated  partnership and relentless support. I look forward to seeing our students embrace the future opportunities ahead and to connect with each of you throughout the year as we work together to make the Middle School a meaningful and memorable part of our students’ legacy at ISHCMC.
